Temple Tour

Requirements for the temple visit:

1) We'd be delighted to be visited by your class - you might let us know what time would be suitable- although if the period 11.30-12.30 and Tuesday Evening can be avoided, this would be good.

2) A donation of 1 pound per person is required.

3) Emailing your visit of how many people? what time? and what scout or school are you from?

4) Confirm date will be mentioned in the process of emailing.

*** In overview our temple is not a particularly large one and I would reckon on a visit lasting one hour or an hour and a half.

A typical programme would consist of:

  • a quick tour around the temple including some artefacts (20 minutes),
  • introduction to Buddhism by powerpoint presentation (20 minutes),
  • a chance to try meditation (15 minutes) - I'd like to elaborate, for the benefit of possible objections from any of your class whose definition of spirituality might be 'narrow' that the content of the meditation would be no more 'Buddhist' or involving Buddhist worship than anything the children would already have encountered  in Collective Worship - if you doubt my word, please come yourself to one of our Saturday afternoon meditation classes and try it out for yourself first!
  • questions and answers with a monk (this will not be me, as I am away abroad for an indefinite time - but I will set up a colleague to lead the visit before I leave)

Arrangements for having lunch at the temple (either a packed lunch brought yourselves or [for a small extra fee] a Thai-style one provided by the temple) are a possibility.

In short we would be very happy to host your visit and look forward to coordinating the remaining details as these emerge.

Kindest regards
